THE RIVER OF FIRE
Author: Alexander Kalomiros
Date of the first edition: 1985
Second edition: 1992
Third edition: 1995
Translation from the English original: Petros Botsis

The River of Fire was the main speech delivered at the Orthodox Youth Conference, organized under the auspices of the Russian Bishops of the Diaspora, in Seattle Washington, in 1980. The speech was given in English and the audience was delighted and impressed. The Archbishop of Canada, Vladika Vitaly, expressed his appreciation and ordered the text to be published in English, Russian and French. The book is an answer to the burdened souls asking in their tribulations in despair: How is it possible that God, being Good, to permit all this evil reigning the world? Why am I tortured by such temptations going beyond my limits? If he is truly merciful and a friend of man why are we condemned in suffering so much in this and the other life?

The book is an offering to the multitude of wounded souls that expect to find consolation only in the bosom of our compassionate Father. Back

AGAINST FALSE UNION
Author: Alexander Kalomiros
First edition: Astir, 1964.
Second edition, Zefyros, 1995
Prologue, by Fotios Kontoglou
Also in English, by St. Nectarios Orthodox Press
Translation by George Gabriel.

Thoughts of an Orthodox Christian, concerning the attempts for union of the One , Holy, and Apostolic Church, with the so-called churches of the West.

From the time of its first appearance in 1964 (1967 in English), Alexander Kalomiros’ Against False Union, has been widely acclaimed. Orthodox and non orthodox alike have made reference to it, quoting especially from its chapters on ecclesiology, salvation and the participation of the orthodox catholic church in the “World Council of Churches”

In this days, when “because of the abounding of iniquity the love of many hath grown cold”, we hope this book will continue to be a source of inspiration, edification and guidance unto salvation for pious and orthodox Christians, as well as for those that are not in the orthodox faith. (Excerpt from the preface of the English edition). Back

THE SIX DAWNS
Author: Alexander Kalomiros
First Edition: 1993
Translated in English by George Gabriel (1997)

The book is a valuable reference to the patristic understanding of the creation of Man and the World, according to the description given in the Holy book of Genesis. The writings of our Holy Fathers, St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. John the Chrysostom, St. Basil the Great and their Cosmology are presented in the context of Creation. Their spirit is revealed to be far from the fundamentalist understanding of contemporary scholastics.

According to the patristic teaching, unknown to many Orthodox Christians, our universe originates from a “seed”. Stars, plants, animals, and humans, we all sprouted from the same original seed. All creatures appeared and grew according to their order, like the branches, the leafs and the fruits, in the trees. Especially the chapter on orthodox anthropology is considered to be a theological milestone. Back
